ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
Richy Ledezma is still in contention for a spot on the USMNT despite being left out of the 23-man squad for the CONCACAF Nationals League finals, manager Mauricio Pochettino said Tuesday.
The right back, who has been a regular for PSV this season, has had conversations with regional rival Mexico about a potential national team switch. Ledezma, who was born in Arizona to a Mexican family, has eligibility for both teams.

WHAT MAURICIO POCHETTINO SAID
In a Nations League roster release news conference, Pochettino addressed Ledezma's absence: "We also considered Ledezma, but at the moment we have Joe Scally and Marlon Fossey, who was with us. We have plenty of players that can play there. But he is in our consideration."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Ledezma has established himself as a regular for the Eredivisie leaders this season after Dest sustained a torn ACL in early 2024. Ledezma has some American soccer experience, after spending 2023 on loan at NYCFC.
Mexico have left the door open on a one-time switch, with manager Javier Aguirre admitting in late February that he had held conversations with Ledezma:
"I spoke with Richard Ledezma. He will have to make his decision. He has the possibility of being Mexican. I didn't put him on the list of 60 because at the moment I wasn't so clear about him," Aguirre said.

WHAT NEXT FOR LEDEZMA?
Ledezma's international future would seem to be up in the air, with both the USMNT and Mexico possibilities for the 24-year-old. Until then, he is expected to be in the picture for PSV as they continue their push to retain the Eredivisie title.
