ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
The Spanish goalkeeper impressed on loan at Bournemouth last season and now appears poised for a transfer to north London, where he will provide cover for David Raya in the Gunners' goalkeeping ranks. Former Chelsea star Shaun Wright-Phillips is confused by the move, however, even claiming Kepa should be the Blues' number one.

WHAT WRIGHT-PHILLIPS SAID
Wright-Phillips told Betway: "I'm confused. I don't understand. It's like nobody's been watching Kepa this season. He's been unbelievable. He is part of the reason why Bournemouth finished where they finished. The defence was outstanding, but Kepa was unbelievable, as well, I thought. I assumed while the season was going on that Chelsea didn't need to buy a goalkeeper because Kepa was going back anyway, but that isn't to be the case. Most managers now are looking for goalkeepers that are good with their feet. I think Kepa’s alright with his feet, but he might not be at the level they want him to be. But for me, it’s a real strange one."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Chelsea's goalkeeping situation has become further confused by their attempt to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan prior to the Club World Cup. The west Londoners could not make that deal happen and now look set to persevere with Robert Sanchez as their first choice at the new tournament.

Kepa is not in the Chelsea squad heading to the USA, where they will take on LAFC, Flamengo and ES Tunis in the group stage of the Club World Cup.
